The technical performance of sealants and adhesives used in the windows and insulating glass industry constitutes a prerequisite for obtaining the necessary thermal and sound insulation characteristics required by the current legislation. On this segment, the offer is extremely varied, including mono- or two-component solutions, made using recipes carefully studied in order to achieve the required levels in terms of quality. Each of the used technologies provide also in addition to the benefits a number of disadvantages. There also solutions which have proven their profitability over time if it mentioned only certain materials already used for decades to seal units Insulating Glass Units (IGU), who shall report excellent value and are characterized through a high level of processability and functionality (being completely compatible with the intended use). The butyl solutions offer many advantages and maximum reliability. These sealants are simple to implement and requires no equipment for premix operations. The substance doesn’t include bio-reagent products, nor isocyanates and can be remodeled. Unlike the alternatives, butyl reach the necessary rigidity in a very short time, allowing the immediate handling of IGU assemblies. Thanks to advanced manufacturing recipes, new solutions have an optimal fluidity and can flexibly adapt to the form of the glass, which allows use in combination with any type of application equipment and any kind of spacer. Among the properties that recommends the implementation the butyl are: low gas and water vapor permeability, which is vital for insulating glass structure in order to avoid losses of inert gas and condensation in the interspace between the glass sheets; increased elasticity that gives optimum vibration damping characteristics and dynamic adaptation to the expansion or contraction of the system components as a result of exposure to extreme environmental conditions; high flexibility at low temperatures, which translates into a maximum adhesion to glass - a mandatory condition in areas characterized by a cold climate.
