Salamander Industrie-Produkte GmbH, a predominantly family-owned company with its headquarters in Türkheim, Unterallgäu - Germany, is one of the leading European system providers for highly energy-efficient window and door systems made of PVC polymers. Being a reliable partner for its partners specialized in thermal insulating joinery manufacturing, Salamander sets high standards of quality, high delivery capability, competent service, and a large product range, based on the customers' needs. Salamander's partners use the profiles in renovation as well as in new construction, in residential and commercial building projects, using a large variety of systems, within the series Salamander Brügmann bluEvolution and evolutionDrive. Globally, Salamander employs around 1,550 specialists, including about 40 apprentices at several locations, and distributes its profile systems in over 85 countries worldwide. To find out more details about the company and to configure some realistic prospects of evolution on short-, medium-, and long term, we asked the Managing Partner and Chief Sales Officer of Samalander Industrie Produkte, Wolfgand Sandhaus, to answer a couple of questions.
- Which was the Salamander turnover in 2023 and in the first half of the current year? Mention the variations as against the previous period. What about the Romanian market, including the dealer’s activity?
- The Salamander Group achieved total revenue of 392.5 million euro last year. This represents a slight increase compared to the previous year. Given the ongoing crises, it is a stable and satisfying result. The same applies to the Romanian market, which also slightly exceeded to the previous year’s level. The results for the first half of 2024 are comparable to the previous year, making them equally satisfactory. Regarding the Romanian market, the fact of being the market leader greatly it helps in overcoming the current challenges.
- How do you manage the current problems, generated by the recent crisis?
- We are well positioned in our core markets, including Romania, and continue to expand our sales presence further. Fortunately, we can rely on our partners, with whom we have often maintained long-standing relationships and celebrated many successes. Together, we are navigating through these challenging times.
- Which are the main business coordinates of Salamander business in Romania? Please, refer to the most usual problems encountered on this market, especially since the recent challenges generated by the residential construction sector shrinking.
- Of course, we also feel the pressure from the decline in new construction projects. However, since we offer innovative systems for renovations and existing buildings, we are able to offset some of these problems. In the Romanian market it helps us a lot, being the market leader in our segment and working with strong partners. Approximately 70% of the supplied profiles remain in the market, with 65% used in renovations and 35% in new construction. About 30% of the profiles are delivered to finished windows and doors, with Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Italy being the most important export markets for our customers.
- What are your strategies designated to strengthen Salamander market quota in Romania? Which are the main products (series) you sell on the region? Please offer more details.
- We offer innovative, sustainable system solutions for various needs, from new constructions to renovations. Our latest platform system, greenEvolution, has been successfully introduced into the Romanian market, providing solutions for every window type, from old building renovations to modern, floor-to-ceiling glass windows in new constructions. A new addition to this platform is greenEvolution_straight, a window frame reaching up to 2.80 meters in height. It features aluminum cladding, providing the look and feel of an aluminum window while being more affordable and offering better insulation.
- What do you expect for the next period, given the accent put on climate challenges and energy efficiency? How about circular economy and green products in your portfolio?
- We are continuously working towards our goal of becoming a climate-neutral company. This includes reducing energy consumption, cutting emissions, and constantly advancing our production technologies. Fundamentally, plastic is the most sustainable material for windows compared to wood and aluminum. A plastic profile undergoes a closed-loop process and can be fully and pollution-free recycled into new profiles. We are consistently expanding our product portfolio with the goal of producing maximally sustainable windows made from 100% recycled old windows and production waste, which are themselves 100% recyclable.
- How Salamander adapts to the new trend of digitalization and Industry 4.0 ecosystem?
- As part of our corporate strategy, we focus on sustainable growth with a clear emphasis on sustainability and digital innovations. For example, we offer app-based solutions for window construction and sales as part of a Smart Sales System, which enables us to advise our partners more effectively through a structured sales pitch. Digitalized concepts are integrated into all areas of our work, and we are proud that the Deutsches Innovationsinstitut has recognized us as a "Employer for the Future"for our efforts. We have to emphasize that earlier this year Salamander sharpened its brand presence with a pioneering approach, transforming Salamander Window & Door Systems into Salamander myWindow. The brand presence supports both window manufacturers and dealers in successfully addressing the market.
